Large red damselfly

Pyrrhosoma nymphula

Description:

I watched this pair of large red damselfies for about ten minutes, it appears they were mating (with the male above the female) and then as they flew around the marsh area the female was ovipositing in a couple of different places, placing the eggs on the stems of the butterbur in the water. The large red is about 3.5cm long.

Habitat:

seen at Old Moor reserve in the Dearne Valley owned by the RSPB.
