Dusky Grouper

Epinephelus marginatus

Description:

Hard to imagine that this baby would (hopefully) grow to be the giant of Adriatic sea - biggest groupers of this species can reach 1,5m in length. Here, not bigger than my palm with ovale body and large head. Main colour is dark olive green with irregular pale yellowish vertical stripes.

Habitat:

Surprising find for me, in shallow waters at about 1m of depth and very near the coast, in a bay of Dubrovnik riviera.

Notes:

Also known as yellowbelly rock cod or yellowbelly grouper; in french Mérou brun or Mérou de Méditerranée; and in our Balkan languages Kirnja or Kernja.
