Crust Fungus, Serpula himantioides

Serpula himantioides

Description:

Crust fungus; irregular shape with white margin and merulioid folds; some with narrow, irregular white caps. (Images 1, 3, 5) Dried within 2-3 days; area covered with folds became brown and smooth. (Corresponding images 2, 4, 6)

Habitat:

Growing on fallen hardwood log by trail in open, mixed deciduous/pine woods above lake.

Notes:

Images 1, 3, 5. Folds were pale because they had not matured (http://www.mycobank.org/name/Serpula%20h... - image 3). By the time I returned to photographed them again, they had dried up (images 2, 4, 6)
