Great Purple Hairstreak

Atlides halesus

Description:

Abdomen is black above, red-orange below. Upperside, iridescent blue. Underside, black with iridescent gold marks near tails. Larval food is mistletoe. Caterpillar is green and covered with short green or yellow orange hairs.

Habitat:

Wooded areas with trees infested with mistletoe. These were spotted feeding on a guajillo in an open area with woods all around.
